Between 1990 and 1994, Dr Van der Westhuizen served as a Registrar in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Stellenbosch, completing both M.Med and FCS (SA) Plastic Surgery degrees.

Dr Van der Westhuizen’s modern facial surgery procedures include small scar keyhole brow lift and repositioning, minimally invasive restoration of eyelids, structural facial fat grafting, facial implants and modified extended deep plane face and neck lift procedures.“I also perform body sculpting surgery with the SAFE liposculpture technique and PAL system for safety, and the short scar breast lift and reduction method for superior results,” he says. Dr Van der Westhuizen also performs non-touch breast implant placements, aimed at restoring proportion and recovering poorly functioning implants.

Dr Van der Westhuizen has served as a National Trainer and Mentor for the Allergan Medical Aesthetic Institute (AMI), and has given training in filler injection and facial anatomy.
At the Cosmetic Surgery Institute, he has trained senior Plastic Surgery registrars in facial and body contouring surgery and nonsurgical fillers.
Dr Van der Westhuizen’s presentations at national conferences include topics on fat grafting, facial aesthetic surgery, as well as skin cancer reconstruction. He presides regularly as a course leader and participant in facial filler education and seminars.
